About Carla

Raised in Canada, shaped by nearly a decade working across Asia, I write copy that travels.

Whether it's an editorial feature or an advertorial campaign, I love to connect with new audiences through work that feels culturally fluent, not translated.

I began my media career after moving to Asia in 2013, irresistibly drawn in by the lightning-quick developments and fascinating stories coming out of the region at the time. In 2015, I completed my Master's in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Hong Kong, where I had the rare opportunity to report on one of the year's defining international events: the pro-democracy protests that occupied Hong Kong's financial district for several months.

In 2015, I landed my first job as digital editor, first for the virally popular travel platform The Culture Trip (then a rapidly expanding startup), followed by Forbes Media (I preferred the 30 Under 30 lists, but did get to interview a billionaire or two…).

Towards the end of 2018, I moved into print journalism, assuming the role of managing editor for the popular Hong Kong health and wellness title, Liv Magazine, as well as overhauling their digital growth strategy. In late 2022, I relocated back to my native Canada, basing myself in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia.

Today, my freelance work keeps me with one foot in Asia, while my client base continues to grow across Canada, the US, the UK and Europe. I move easily between markets, shaping stories that feel natural wherever they land. Let's connect.
